First Lego League "Explore"

Requirements: None
Meetings: Mondays
Grade Level: 1st-5th Grade
Purpose: In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKETM Essential or WeDo 2.0. During the 2024-2025 FIRST season, FIRST® DIVE℠ teams will use their STEM and collaboration skills to explore life beneath the surface of the ocean. Along the way, we’ll uncover the potential in each of us to strengthen our community and innovate for a better world with healthy oceans. Join us as we explore the future.

Scripts Spelling Bee
Sponsor/Advisor: Kendrea Guidry
Requirements: None
Meetings: Tuesdays
Grade Level: 3rd-5th Grade
Purpose: A spelling bee is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. To compete, contestants must memorize the spellings of words as written in dictionaries, and recite them accordingly.

A+ Number Sense 4th and 5th grade

Requirements: None
Meetings: Tuesdays
Grade Level: 4-5th Grade
Purpose: A+ Number Sense Competitions involve a 10-minute, 80-question mental math test covering all operations and their properties. During weekly meetings, team members will develop and practice shortcuts to improve computation and competitive test taking skills for fun. HSIGP will host and attend Invitational Meets to practice competing against other schools and the best performers will represent HSIGP at the District Competition.

Purpose: Students learn different modes of art and discover new ways to express themselves as artists. This club is a platform to develop aesthetic values and enhance the creative skills and artistic talents of students.

Yearbook Club

Grade Level: 4th-5th
Purpose: All activities involved in the yearbook club focus on the construction of the yearbook. Taking pictures, drawing layouts, cropping photographs, writing and typing copy, selling advertisements and yearbooks are all activities that the club members undertake.
